We are writing to express our overwhelming support and thanks to our family and friends at One of a kind in Staten Island. We use the word family because the teachers and caregivers do so much for our children. Sims (6) and Emily (2) have attended One of a Kind for the better part of 5 years. It is not unusual for Emily to leap out of our arms and into one the teachers when we drop her off in the morning. Sims (in aftercare) looks forward to his afternoon in the atrium with his One of a Kind friends. Your place has provided a safe and nurturing environment for both children as infants and toddlers. As the children have grown so too has the curriculum and opportunities to develop. We feel good that the children are continuously challenged and entertained while at school.
Your overwhelming support of Emily and her challenges with development has touched our hearts. The caregivers at One of a Kind have provided so much love and attention that it is difficult to put our appreciation into words. Emily has thrived in this environment and it is obvious that every teacher takes the time to address all of Emily’s special needs. We know that Emily’s progression is due largely to the support that she receives at school.
For anyone looking for a preschool, One of a Kind is a great choice. We believe that it would be hard to find a more caring environment that provides the opportunity for children to thrive and reach their full potential.

I wanted to send you a quick note telling you how much my husband and I truly appreciate your school. Not only as a concerned parent but as an elementary school teacher. I have seen how children grow and develop by attending One of a Kind. My son has so much knowledge, often surprised I’ll ask him “How do you know that?” and he’ll reply he learned it at school.
Socially, I couldn’t have asked for more. My son has made so many friends and can’t wait for the fun activities that this school provides. Music class and tumble tots are the highlights of his week. Each and every teacher in the building knows my son’s name, even the ones who’s classrooms he has not been in. One of a Kind’s makes you feel like part of a big family, and they all really care about the well-being of your child.
There is a difference in the preschools in our area. I have been to visit most (if not all of them) and found One of a Kind’s to be the most accommodating and have the best curriculum for my child. I am always welcomed to his classroom at any time (not so with some other schools), and still feel as though I am involved in his daily routine even though I can’t be with him during the day. I also notice a difference with the children in my classroom. The children who have attended seem to have an edge over the other children. They appear to be more socially adjusted and I will often hear “We already learned that in preschool”.
One of a Kind Childcare has helped me in making sure my child is smart, strong, and well-adjusted. When it comes time for Kindergarten and beyond, I know he will achieve to his highest abilities. In part, we have to thank One of a Kind for that.

We just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate all you do for our family. From the day we brought Kevin in at 4 months old, and every day since then, all 2+ years, you have never disappointed us. From day one we never worried about Kevin’s safety, well-being, education, or experience at Flanagan’s.
We’re always impressed with the amount of communication we receive about what’s going on at school. Both day by day (was it a good day or a rough day; sleep and eating habits), as well as what’s coming up so we have time to prepare (like special occasions or projects).
The teachers and staff are so accessible; we never feel weird about asking questions. The teachers have so much knowledge, experience and understanding of what children need, and what’s “normal” for them. The staff and teachers realize that kids will be kids, and don’t get crazy about things. Knowing that Flanagan’s understands has helped put us at ease when Kevin has gone through some unpleasant phases (like now). The teachers treat the children like family; you can see that they honestly care about the children, and the children respond in king. Kevin trusts and adores his teachers. They are able to calm him down as well as we are. Also, the low turnover rate for teachers provides consistency for the kids (and parents, too!). I think it’s that environment of consistency, discipline and caring that allows the kids to learn. From shapes, to abc’s, to numbers, to songs, to cleaning up toys, to holding a fork, spoon or crayon properly, to drinking from a cup, Kevin is always learning new things at school and doing or talking (or singing) about them at home. They have structured time for eating, napping, learning, stories, music and crafts, and unstructured time for playing with toys, or on the playground, or under the sprinkler. Excellent. Just excellent.
You really understand the needs of working parents. You offer long hours which help families like ours who do not work close to home. You communicate early and often about upcoming events and changes so we’re aware of them, and have enough time to prepare for them.
We have recommended One of a Kind Childcare to friends and family in the area, and will continue to do so. We can’t even imagine going anywhere else.

There are many things my family values about One of a Kind is the low staff turnover rate, the small classroom sizes, and the “extras” like Tumble Tots and music class. Most impressive, though, is the curriculum and the dedication of the staff in implementing and improving upon that curriculum. The children have plenty of time for fun and play, while also learning essential kindergarten-readiness skills. The addition of the Kindergarten Club has been excellent for our younger son who loves doing his homework right alongside his older brother.

A working mom’s number one concern is that her child is safe and content while you are gone. The staff at One of a Kind Childcare in Staten Island have created an environment where I have peace of mind leaving my son in their care. The teachers are warm, affectionate and have built such a trusting relationship that when Dillon sees them in the morning he smiles and gives them hugs. The daycare administrators are accessible whenever I have questions or concerns and the other parents are friendly and considerate. It makes for a great sense of community.

We joined One of a Kind family just six weeks ago and have been very pleased with the progress our Son is making. I would like to acknowledge Ms. Gina as she has been a pleasure to deal with and very efficient with her daily reports as to Justin’s progress as well as letting us know what his strong points are and his weak points in which she is working with him on, as we did not have this at our prior center for the last two years. This is a very family oriented atmosphere and I can say they are the BEST in the South Shore area and very reasonably priced for the care they provide. I would also like to acknowledge Genevieve who is an excellent Director. I can promise that they will make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door along with every staff member. We look forward to Justin doing pre-Kindergarten here next year.
